Stewart Farm Sanitary Pump Station Upgrade

fenced area pump station

Project Description

We will upgrade the sanitary pump station located near Stewart Farm to protect it from future flooding.

What will the Project Achieve?

This station is part of the City of Surrey’s sanitary sewer system to collect wastewater from the community and carry it to the Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plan.

This station is located at low elevation on the south bank of the Nicomekl River. This lower part of the river is impacted by tides which makes the station more vulnerable to flooding. We need to raise the station to avoid any damage to the infrastructure or the environment, while keeping it functioning in the case of a severe flood.

In 2019, we finalized Surrey’s Coastal Flood Adaptation Strategy (CFAS) to help us prepare for sea level rise and improve flood resilience within the coastal floodplain. By floodproofing this sanitary pump station, we’re putting CFAS planning to action.

This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada through the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund.

Project Timing

Construction will begin Spring 2020. Project is anticipated to be completed by Winter 2020.
