Business Licence Inspection Process

Planning, Development & Building Temporary Services During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Call Centre: Planning & Development now has a call centre to replace the services normally provided at our 2W Service Counter at City Hall. Callers will be transferred to a staff member who will provide direction with respect to submitting applications, paying fees, requesting data, enquiring about land use, and booking appointments with specific staff. Digital Permit Intakes: Planning & Development permits can be submitted by email to permitapplication@surrey.ca. Before submitting your application, please review the Digital Submission Guideline. You will be contacted once we have reviewed your submission. All permit application processes will remain the same, apart from receiving the physical document copies. Hard copies of permit application submissions may be necessary and requested depending on the scope of work and project size, upon completion of the digital submission. 

Pick ups and Drop offs: Note that Surrey City Hall has switched to appointment-only. Hard copies of plans, applications and other documents normally accepted at 2W, 3W and 4W counters are to be left in the drop box near the public entrance at Parking Level P1. Pick up of permits, plans and other documents normally from 2W, 3W and 4W is now at the Reception Desk at 1W.

Inspections: Building, Plumbing, Electrical and Trees and Landscape inspections are still being scheduled; however, until further notice, there will be no inspections of occupied homes, properties and spaces; and no inspections when City Officials, at their sole discretion, believe there is a health hazard. Inspections will be carried with only one person present to meet the inspector while maintaining appropriate social distancing.

After an application is made with Business Licensing inspections are required by the Building, Electrical, and Plumbing sections. Applications are sent to each section for an initial inspection and results of inspections are automatically forwarded to Licensing on your behalf. If there are items that require correction the applicant will be required to attend to these items and contact the respective section for approval.

If there are any active permits for the location you have applied for they will be required to have final approval before approval can be granted for the business licence. This includes permits that were applied for when the previous tenant(s) occupied the building.

If final approval is granted for a permit it is the responsibility of the licensee to schedule an inspection using their Business Licence number with the respective sections. Please contact Inspection Sections (below) directly to make sure your Business Licence is approved after your permit has received final approval, as these are separate processes.

Please note for Building Permits that have Electrical or Plumbing requirements these permits must have final approval prior to the Final Approval of the Building Permit.

Scheduling Inspections

Contact each section separately for an appointment or if a re-inspection is required. Inspections scheduled through the incorrect phone line cannot be processed. Inspections can be scheduled through our 24 hour lines by answering the prompts and stating the Business Licence Application number instead of a permit number, and "Business Licence" as the type of inspection.
