Surrey, BC – The City of Surrey announced today the eighth annual Surrey Doors Open event will take place at 27 civic venues across the city on Saturday, June 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The inspiration for Surrey Doors Open stems from origins in France where the first Doors Open event, La Journee Portes Ouvertes, took place in 1984. The idea soon spread to neighbouring countries and has since expanded around the globe. Surrey has adopted this popular concept, which offers residents a glimpse into the culture, history and diversity behind many civic doors.

With an official launch happening at the Museum of Surrey in Cloverdale at 12:30 p.m., participating venues are offering a behind-the-scenes experience of Surrey’s culture, history, art, and architecture. This free, city-wide, community event has a variety of activities including guided tours, demonstrations, contests, games, activities and more.

Visitors can win prizes by sharing their experience on social media, using the hashtag #surreydoorsopen, or by emailing images to Prizes can also be won by taking a brief survey at

Transportation between venues in Cloverdale and Whalley are being provided for visitors.  For more information, or for a complete list of participating facilities, visit
